We have been seeing huge improvements with Keira's speech over the last few months. I definitely don't have a count on her words anymore. She speaks in short 3-4 word sentences and joins in on all the family conversations. She's a regular chatterbox!
Here's a quick clip of her saying "Spaghetti" or as she calls it, "Skubabbi"

We had Keira's annual FSIP meeting with Early Intervention last month. Her therapists handed in their latest evaluations of her progress in gross motor, fine motor, and speech. In gross motor, she actually scored advanced for her age. Imagine that! My little girl, who couldn't even roll over both ways at nearly a year old, is ADVANCED! (Cue the glowing, proud parents!) Fine motor skills are slightly delayed (or at least they were at the time of her assessments). We've already noticed significant progress in that skill area. She's been doing lots of coloring and playing with stickers lately that have most definitely strengthened her fingers. Her attention span has also dramatically increased so that is helping to keep her focused on little activities that sharpen the fine motor skills. Her speech is still delayed, but according to Jennifer, our speech therapist, Keira has made TEN months progress in just FOUR months! Speech delay is still there, but nothing of concern in the eyes of the early intervention team. As a matter of fact, based on her impressive growth in all three skill areas, Keira no longer technically qualifies for early intervention services! This is bittersweet news of course. Daphne (PT/OT) has been with us since Keira was six months old and just barely swatting at toys dangling overhead on her activity mat. So unbelievable to me to see how far my once teeny tiny preemie has come. It was decided at this last meeting that Keira will continue to be monitored by Jennifer for speech until she ages out of the early intervention program in April to give a little support when/if needed.
Are you impressed? We are!

It must be my New Year's Resolution to stop checking blogs at work, but I have to say this one quick thing. Michael tells me that when Claire was around this age, she would say "fork" in a very unusual way, so often heard telling you or Steve to "fork you" or something like that when she wanted a fork. So, it really made me giggle in this video when you asked Kiki what was in the bowl, and she said "fork" clear as a bell. Anyways, so anxious to get Kiki and Nancy Carol together again this summer so they can exchange new vocabulary words. (To this day, NC still screams at the sight of spaghetti and runs away searching for a cookie.)
