TEN WEEKS OLD

Keira accomplished a lot this week. For one, she is growing like a weed. Today she is 4lbs 7.6oz and is 17 1/4" long. This is the size Claire was when we brought her home from the hospital. As a matter of fact, Keira has been wearing a lot of Claire's hand-me-down clothes these days. Keira has graduated from the isolette and is now in an open bed. She remains on oxygen, but is doing very well on it. She is still primarily fed by her feeding tube, but has been nursing once a day while I'm with her and is bottle fed once a day. These feedings will gradually increase and the feeding tube will come out. Keira is very alert now and has big blue eyes that seem to really take everything in. The nurses are constantly commenting how adorable they think she is and how sweet her disposition seems to be. We couldn't agree more or be more proud.

Keira's due date (July 29th) is still our target date for bringing her home. The doctor explained that she will most likely be discharged while still on oxygen and in need of a home apnea monitor. We are familiar with life with an apnea monitor because Claire had one until she was about 6 months old, but the idea of our girl coming home on oxygen is a daunting one. Having no experience with a baby at home with oxygen scares me to death. I guess there is no use in worrying now though. Right? RIGHT????!!! Yeah, right. Anyone got a bottle of wine?
